Artist Bio

Jessica M. Bravo is an artist based in Northern Virginia and South Carolina, specializing in painting and printmaking. Raised in Lima, Peru, Bravo established her foundation in graphic and advertising design before working at The Washington Post in Washington, D.C. She later earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. This dual background allows her current work to balance a structured, deliberate technique with direct, personal perception. Recently, her painting "The Weight of Yellow" was awarded first place at the 2025 Georgetown Art Walk in South Carolina.

Artist  Statement

My painting practice is rooted in direct observation. Working primarily with still life, I explore the physical relationships between objects, focusing on weight, balance, and structural harmony.
My studio operates like a small theater. Every setup is a carefully constructed physical stage. I paint from life. My background in graphic design drives this process, dictating the organization of composition, value, and color. By placing physical elements into these highly deliberate, controlled environments, the work creates a quiet tension—anchoring unexpected visual relationships within a clear, grounded reality.
